March 17th was Saint Patrick's Day, a festival that celebrates the most famous saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. It also celebrates the history and people of Ireland. The festival is both a religious day and a public holiday. It is held every year on March 17. Some Christians go to church to worship on St. Patrick's Day. Many people like to wear green clothes or a shamrock which is a small piece of green clover on St. Patrick's Day. People all over the world celebrate St. Patrick's Day, especially places with large Irish-American communities. Feasting on the day features traditional Irish food, including corned beef, corned cabbage, coffee, soda bread, potatoes, and shepherd's pie. There is also Irish dancing and St. Patrick's Day parades. Check out the editor's pick this week from our Holidays and Festivals category, a story about Leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day.
