Smart Kidz Club Weekly Newsletter, January 29, 2016

Today is the National Puzzle day in the United States of America. It was started in 2002 by Jodi Jill, a professional quiz maker and newspaper puzzlemaker as a way to share her enjoyment of puzzles.

Studies have found that puzzles like the crossword, jigsaw, word searches, brain teasers or Soduku, puzzles put our brains to work and stimulate the brain, keeping it active and practicing its skills. When we work on a jigsaw puzzle, we use both sides of the brain, and spending time daily working on puzzles improves memory, cognitive function and problem solving skills. Word searches and crossword puzzles have specifically shown to increase vocabulary and language skills.

On this National Puzzle Day, have your kids read the SmartKidzClub's US History series and try the word searches at the end.
